Regional Leads Meeting #3 – Recording and Follow-up

Thank you to everyone who made the call yesterday. Below lists follow-up and includes the link to the recording of the meeting.
1.) PLP Downcoding OP-ED redraft was reviewed. Cathey is working on getting final approval from leadership. We now need to identify authors for each state we plan to make a placement (Georgia Illinois, Indiana, Iowa*, Missouri, Nebraska, Texas). Other states were mentioned, but for commercial payers (CA, CO, KS, UT). These authors should be an EDPMA member and understand the issue. Please let us know if you have any authors in mind. 2.) New York medical liability opposition letter was reviewed. The bill has not yet been transmitted to the governor. Our letter will be sent once the legislation is delivered to the governors desk.
3.) We discussed supporting efforts in Ohio that impact medical debt (HB49). Specifically, Senate amendment includes physicians in the definition of “Medical Creditor”. The bill limits medical creditors ability to report and collect medical debt. This issue was brought to our attention by Aron Goldfeld. Kevin had a call with lobbyist working with Aron, Kelsey Woolard. EDPMA is helping support these efforts as needed.
